Nina Söderquist Interview – Goodbye

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman October 26, 2017 11:36 am Tagged With: Europe, Pop, Rock, singer, songwriter, Sweden

Nina Soderquist

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Nina Söderquist about her latest release, influences, challenges, music consumption preferences and more.

Full Q&A along with links and a stream of Goodbye featuring Björn Skifs below.

Let’s jump in with the basics. Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I grew up in a small village in the north of Sweden. I always wanted to be a singer and started touring at 17. I’ve lived & worked all over the world, most recently in London playing musicals. Now I live in Stockholm.

I love rock and my voice has a lot of rock in it so that’s what I do

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Started with music early on and there haven’t been anything else for me. Music and touring is what I love and my way of life.

Who or what are your biggest influences?

I admire big voices and also the voices that gets me in to a certain mood. Beyoncé, Bonnie Tyler, David Coverdale, Björn Skifs have voices like that. I love rock from the 80ies and I find a lot of inspiration there.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Well it’s a duet with my biggest inspiration Björn Skifs. He inspirera me to be the best i can be and that NOTHING is impossible.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in an oversaturated, digital age? And, how has technology helped, since we all know it does help?

I love the new digital age in a way cause it’s so easy to work with in the studio but at the same time i miss the time When you could by a record only in a shop

How do you feel about streaming services? Any romantic attachments to the physical formats: vinyl, 8-track, cassettes, CDs?

Streaming is good and An easy way to listen to music. You have all the music in the world with you at all times in your phone, it’s great for a person like me who travels a lot. Cassettes, it’s my childhood (though it was a lot of work with doing a favourite mixed tape, ha ha)

Where is the best place to connect with you online and hear more music?

My website , spotify and youtube

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you for having me and I hope you will enjoy GOODBYE for a long time. I know I will?
