In episode 1 of On First Listen, we spin Erisa Rei’s “Gypsy in the Desert” from her latest record, Black Ball.

Jesse Crawford of the well known spacerock band, Sodacon, joins Mid-Tenn’s own Jedi Bret for a live broadcast Hangout on Air as they give a first listen to a rockin’ tune from the C.D.M.N. artist, Erisa Rei.

“On First Listen” is a new series being brought to you by Middle Tennessee Music and produced by Small Barn Sound TV. Weekly, C Bret Campbell will give his first impressions on a song selected from submissions for review. The songs may come from Mid-Tenn’s ever growing stack of album review submissions, or from individual tunes sent diectly to the show’s host.

We hope to have a special co-host, each week, from the huge number of music industry professionals we have come to know over the past couple of years. We welcome our friends to let us know if they would like to join us for one of these adventures!

What did we think of “Gypsy In The Desert”?

Well, It Rocks! Now that the video is processed, I’ve heard it a few more times and like it more with each listen. Mid-Tenn will feature a complete review of “Black Ball” in just a few days, and we’re looking forward to cranking the whole thing “live” with some friends, tonight!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
