Poets in Social Media

by Tisha Emberton April 16, 2012 11:01 am Tagged With: Poetry, Spoken Word

Tisha at Open Mic Night

The Arts are definitely something to be celebrated.

I am a poet and host of an open mic group in the Middle Tennessee area. I use social media and various other publications to promote these Arts.

I like creating as an outlet for expression, poetry, singer/songwriters, artists and writers. Some artists/performers really surprise me with their diverse styles and creativity. Artists come in all shapes, sizes, colors and all create in their own unique art form.

I’ve had some come to me and say the open mic night experience has inspired them to begin creating again. There are also some that look forward to open mic night because it is a platform to showcase their talents. Some of the creative people in my open mic group have become family. I’ve made new friends and networked with various creative types. It is definitely a humbling experience.

Social media is an outstanding way to promote myself as a poet as well as a hostess of events. I created a page on Facebook called Creative Arts Café and also a self titled page, Tisha Emberton.

I have seen results from using social media. I see it reaching people more vast and creating an outstanding way of promoting and uniting people all in the name of the Arts! I love how, as an artist, that I have a clientele of fans reading my poetry. Social media works, and is a very profitable market.

I also have a youtube channel, tishaemberton9.

I have been writing poetry since I was six years old. I have often been told that poets are messengers. My first poetry journal had an angel statue on it. I am a very spiritual poet. I have since become known as Poet of the Angels.

I have traveled abroad in search of connecting with poets, singer/songwriters, writers and artists. I stay true to my craft, and now in my adult years, I am really proud of all that has aspired from my love of the Arts. A poet friend of mine said, “Let’s turn this stage into a pulpit.”

It really made me start thinking about how powerful poetry can be, and how it can make people search their own souls and find meaning in their own lives. Poetry is not just words, but rather an artist’s palette of dreams, guide to destiny and reason to carry on. I’ve often been inspired by poetry, and it affects my life daily. Poetry is a cleansing of the soul, resurrecting and aspire the true whispers that burn inside.

Poetry gives me peace. For it is the one thing that drives me. Poetry is a way of life.

John SturgillI met singer/songwriter and poet John Sturgill recently. Together we are now planning Arts by the River, an event at his river house.

Imagine a stage by the river, tiki torches, bonfire, dvd of your performance, connecting with creative people like yourself and having a platform for your craft.

Arts by the River will take place in Morrison, TN.

This is a non-alcoholic event and all ages are welcome. Bring your cooler, food, chairs, your instruments and your craft.

I am really looking forward to showcasing this event and having the opportunity to share my poetry, and also hear amazing creative types perform their crafts. I am using social media to promote my event as it has been a very faithful promoting strategy. I have been hosting open mic nights for 3 years now. I truly see the open mic night stage getting bigger.

The address for Arts by the River is 671 Peach Ave, Morrison, TN 37357.

I have to thank Bret Campbell for allowing me to use this website as an outlet to promote my poetry and events. I hope you decide to use social media as a source of promotion for your craft. The internet reaches hundreds of people daily.

If you would like to learn more about events that I am hosting, please look up Creative Arts Café on Facebook. I use various forms of social media to promote the Arts and networking. I will also be sharing some of my poetry as I hope it inspires you to look within your own soul and find peace.

Science is the research of the unknown, and poets are the ones who just know. Poetry is a spiritual experience of when angels and demons are at war with my lyrics. Poetry is a river of scars, pain, rebirth, dreams, love and stimulation of reaching out.

I will leave you with a poem.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
