Poppy’s Field is a London-based folk act that dares to breakaway from stagnant genre labels by weaving pop and urban elements into their overarching sound.

In this interview spotlight, we chat about music, motivations, the new project and more.

Full Q&A, links, and videos can be found below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PC-A_LNiSis

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Im from a town in East London called Whitechapel, the music I create is a infusion of elements of Folk,Pop and Urban music. I feel as thou my artistry is fresh, current and unique and alongside folk tracks of mine like ”Cemetery to Lie” I have songs like ”Laguna” and ”Meant to Be” that are more Urban and Pop orientated. My talent lies in the purpose I have when creating lyrical music that paints pictures with my words onto an empty canvas, I believe that although my creations are different that makes them sound even more beautiful the listeners ear.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

I started out writing poetry from an early age but soon discovered that I could create catchy and melodic hooks with my lyrics that transformed into a specific genre I wanted to create. Music gives you a platform to transfer you’re emotions at that present time and I always wanted to create music so I could bring emotion to the fans ear, to see and hear people enjoy or sing the work you have created on with so much emotion and feeling is the greatest fulfillment in the world.

Who or what are your biggest influences when it comes to your creativity?

People often describe me as a baby Morrisey and being a huge Smiths fan its a compliment, growing up I listening to a lot of The Smiths, Jackson Browne, The Eagles, Death Cab For Cutie and Buddy Holly and I feel you can hear certain aspects of there music in some of the songs I have published. I am also a huge fan of Hip-Hop and Urban music and always wanted to add the rap elements into my tracks, Notorious B.I.G really is a poet and lyrical genius and a huge influence when it comes to both writing and Hip Hop aspects

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

”Cemetery to Lie” is actually a song I put out 2 years ago with great success, it featured heavily on UK and U.S radio featuring on Radio One and BBC London as well as being one of the tracks on my set list played across America on my U.S Tour. The song was hugely influence by the song For Widows In Paradise by Sufjan Stevens which I think is the most beautiful crafted track and I felt ”Cemetery to Lie” deserved to be put out again and gain and harvest new listeners as its a good intro into ”Ppoppy’s Field” as an artist. My latest track released in May was ”Laguna” and that has all the Pop and Urban elements I spoke about earlier infused into a summer feel good track so if you have a spare moment then check out that also.

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

Music will always be a challenge in the current age we live in, but with social media you can build and create a platform for success. As an Independent artist you will never sell a substantial amount of EP,s, Singles or Albums to make a fortune financially but as an artist you don’t create music for fame or money if it truly is you’re passion. Social Media is a powerful and success tool to use and attract new fans so we have the benefits of living in an age where there is a huge attraction drawn to Internet based attraction which can only help the artists.

Where can we follow you online and hear more music?

You can listen and watch my music on my youtube links I have attached below and also buy my debut E.P ”Doll Face” from media outlets iTunes and Spotify.

I put a lot of effort into creating really amazing visual aspects to portray my music so I always promote the chance for new listeners to watch those.
