Quit Yourself Delivers Excellent Songcrafting, Emo-Infused Punk Rock Vibes on For Those Who Cared

Quit Yourself-For Those Who Cared

Ann Arbor, Michigan native, Buffalo, NY resident singer/songwriter Travis Matheny was gifted his first guitar during a Christmas visit to his grandparents’ home in Ithacha, New York.

That gift set Travis on a path that has led him through several punk and emo bands across the Midwest and in NY. Between 2006-2014, Travis was a member of the bands: Fairway, Words After and I’m Happiest When.

Heavily influenced by bands such as Blink 182, Park, Cassino, Dads Away and Taking Back Sunday, Travis began sorting through all his unreleased original music in 2014 once his band I’m Happiest When parted ways.

In March of 2020, Quit Yourself became the product of Travis’ adventures into solo songwriting with the release of For Those Who Cared.

An EP packed with 8 tracks of power-pop-rockin’, emo-punk-esque jams, For Those Who Cared is a fine balance of Quit Yourself’s influences, his experiences in bands during the mid-2000s, and a refreshing originality that reminds listeners of a past era of mainstream rock music while maintaining a refreshing aesthetic for 2020.

Recorded and produced in the attic of his home, Quit Yourself holds true to the DIY ethos. Even more impressive, Travis’ DIY approach to music creation still maintains a level of class A studio production quality.

With strong melodies, impactful hooks, “down-in-the-mouth” songwriting and an unrelenting passion to make music, Quit Yourself delivers an emotion-packed, texturally thick, lyrically relatable project with a high level of production quality, excellent musicianship, and top-shelf songwriting.
