Ras Xix

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 25, 2014 11:16 am Tagged With: electronica, Funk, Progressive, Rock, World

Ras XixRas Xix is a traveler and his journey to find a new iteration of rock music which incorporates the diversity of world and electronica genres will enter its next phase with the release of his self-titled debut on May 1, 2014.

Originally from Singapore, this talented songcrafting musician has also spent time in Los Angeles but is curerntly located in Austin, Texas. The debut single (see video above), Las Arenas de Cartagena was written on the shores of Boca Grande in Cartagena, Colombia. Try not to burn yourself during Ras’ rapid flamenco phrasings.

With a pop appeal that will grab the attention of a wide range of listeners, Ras’ voice is passionate. His musicianship is excellent. And his ability to weave in and out of genres – rock to prog to funk to acoustic – help him stand out in the ocean of bands competing for ears in this space.

This album is the Red Hot Chili Peppers collaborating with Soundgarden to write a song for Taking Back Sunday. Definitely a refreshing collection of sounds for this genre.

Watch out for the album release on May 1st. You can stream the album in advance on Bandcamp or Soundcloud.

Make sure to visit Ras Xix’s website then connect on FB or Twitter.
