Re-Up Spot interview Harn Solo

by C Bret Campbell September 8, 2013 1:05 am

PerfectPicture2-cover1Our friend, Harn Solo was recently interviewed on ReUpSpot.

So how much into Stars Wars are you?

Of course I was a fan of the Hollywood movie series growing up in the 80s. However, the name “Harn SOLO” is just a simple play on words because my last name is Harney and I’m performing SOLO. I think it would be dope to do a collab with Danny Brown’s producer Skywlkr though. That would be a wild hip-hop and Star Wars mash-up!

How does the music scene differ from LA compared to NOLA?

Both cities really appreciate hip-hop well. There’s just more artists in New Orleans, so sometimes incredible musicians get over looked. Los Angeles has great up and coming rappers like Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Hopsin and more. But New Orleans has their own breed of emcees that are just as nice.

Listening to “Perfect Picture” you seem to have had a lot of fun making this album. How did just stepping into the studio and having fun with this project make it different than your previous releases?

That’s cool you picked up on my new approach to recording. My previously releases had been memorized for months, and sometimes even a year before I finally recorded the music. This time around with “Perfect Picture” I heard the beats from @CZAofCKP and would rap the songs almost instantly within a day or two. I was genuinely excited during the making of the album and it shows. It was the first time I wrote my lyrics on a piece of paper since my debut record, “Solo 101″. With “Perfect Picture” being my sixth release, I wanted to spend extra time on each individual bar and get better as an artist.

He’s getting ready to release a new record in late October. We’ll be looking forward to it! This cat is one of the hottest indie hip-hop artists I’ve ever come across. To wet your whistle a bit, check out “The Future” one of the first cuts from the up-coming “Picture Perfect”
