Rock and Roll CUSTOM Style – Flat Out Fast

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 21, 2014 6:41 pm Tagged With: Seattle

Flat Out Fast by Custom Looking for some of that classic, crank it to 11, fast and in-your-face rock and roll? So was I and I’ve got just the fix for both of us.

CUSTOM, from Seattle, is currently promoting their new album Flat Out Fast and it’s everything Rock & Roll is supposed to be.

Custom is: Jacque Hartless on vocals, Corey Petro on guitar, John Norton on guitar, Paul Yarnold on bass, and Brandon Wilsey on drums. This group of bad ass musicians and performers has rocked hundreds of shows over the last decade (or longer).

Landing on the spectrum somewhere between Alice in Chains, AC/DC, and Buckcherry, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of these guys before. Regardless, they are top shelf and their polished songcrafting shines through on all 9 tracks that make up Flat Out Fast.

From the foot stompin’, party rompin’ intro “Stop” to the more mellow and chilled “Time To Say Goodbye”, this rollercoaster ride is a truly Custom{ized} rock & roll experience.

“Well I lost my mind, but I didn’t use it much anyway…” is one of my favorite lyrics from the album and also sets the theme for “Buzz Zone”. “Because of You” follows with a spacey, downtempo vibe where Hartless’ soulful, gritty vocals carry the track from one smooth transition to the next.

“Flat Out Fast” brings us back full throttle as we merge onto the fast paced rock & roll highway in our Custom ’56. Windows down while cars and trees fly by. Pedal to the metal, stereo turned up so loud the knob broke off. Cruising straight into  “Trust and Tolerance”, the band doesn’t miss a beat as we ride off into the sunset. This one in particular conjures feelings of nostalgia from days rocking out to Alice in Chains.

“Callate Su Boca” continues the onslaught as the night comes and the moon shines bright and full. Soon we’ll be beach-side “Punching Sand”, being loud, and “Killing Time”. As an evening of rock and roll soul comes to an end, it’s “Time To Say Goodbye”…with some mellow but major badass attitude.

Flat Out Fast is going to stay in rotation for a while. Go grab your copy and support this great band.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
