Roxana Labatt’s Brand New Single “Someone to Call” Soars with Emotion

by Leslie Sherman March 27, 2025 8:13 am Tagged With: 2025, indie, new music, singer, songwriter, United States

Singer-songwriter Roxana Labatt is no stranger to re-invention. Once a high-powered Wall Street lawyer with degrees from Princeton and NYU Law, she faced a life-altering moment when a sudden health crisis forced her to reconsider everything.

That brush with mortality became a catalyst, leading her away from the rigid path of corporate law and back to the thing she had loved since childhood – music. Now, with an ever-growing body of work, Roxana has proven herself as a compelling voice in indie pop and rock, as she creates songs that blend evocative storytelling with striking melodies.

Her latest single “Someone to Call” is out today and promises to be one of her most powerful yet.

Listen here:

A heartfelt ballad produced, mixed, and mastered by Kfir Gov at Evil Snail Studios in Austin, Texas, the song showcases Roxana’s signature soaring vocals. Rich with vulnerability and depth, “Someone to Call” unfolds and rises into something of a cinematic moment, pulling the listener in to a world of longing, reflection and raw beauty.

Labatt explains the meaning behind “Someone to Call”:

“Some years ago, shortly after I had been diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness, I was sitting alone in a doctor’s waiting room in NYC. I looked around and noticed that all of the other patients (most of whom were about 40-50 years older than I was at the time) had someone – a spouse, a relative, a friend – someone they could call to show up for them at these appointments.

And I didn’t. From the outside, it probably looked like my life was going very well – I was living in a beautiful apartment on the river in New York City, working at a prestigious law firm, I could buy nice clothes and eat at nice restaurants and take nice vacations. I had achieved the professional goals that I had been working so hard for, but I was really missing this other (personal) aspect of my life.“

Along with this very poignant realisation, it is Labatt’s voice that is the undeniable centerpiece here. She carries the weight of the song’s emotion with effortless grace.

The production on “Someone to Call” is lush and intimate, allowing space for each note to breathe much like the best works of Adele or Florence Welch. Each phrase is carefully crafted, with lyrics that speak to universal themes of love and loss.

Since her debut single in 2020, Roxana has honed a writing style that is both deeply personal and widely relatable. Her songs often navigate the complexities of relationships, whether romantic, familial and even the one we have with ourselves.

“It’s my hope that my songs make people feel less alone,” she has said, and this upcoming release is sure to do just that.

With this new chapter, Roxana Labatt further cements her place as an artist to watch. For those drawn to music that doesn’t just sound beautiful but feels beautiful, this is a song you won’t want to miss.
