In this interview spotlight, we chat with Jordan Fennell of Scream Serenity about music, influences, the new project, and more.

Full Q&A, links, and streams can be found below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

I think listening to Rock Music from an early age was definitely a contributing factor into being attracted to play that kind of music. Also at it’s heart Rock music has almost always had something to say, whether it be spiritually, politically or just about having a good time and a big attraction for me is listening to something that actually has some substance and meaning to it.

What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?

Well, my father played guitar which naturally led  me to want to learn and at about the age of 13, with the rise of a band local to us called ‘The Darkness’ I really took to it and formed a band by as quickly as i could once I could play, I started writing at the age of 14 and haven’t looked back since! With Scream Serenity the thing that drives us is the love and joy of what we do and we just want to share what we’ve created with the world with as much fervour and energy as we can!

Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?

The songs I tend to write, I take a lot of inspiration from what happens in the world, there’s such a rich tapestry to draw from that never really ends. As far as taste in Music, I’ve always been a Rock lover at heart, i grew up listening to Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi. Over the years though my tastes have gotten heavier, I like Metal, one of the bands i take a big influence from when writing music right now is Stone Sour.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

I think with the Music Video we just want to get it out to as many people as we possibly can, the main aim of it was to give people a glimpse into the passion and energy we have on stage when we perform live.

What was the last song you listened to?

The last song i remember listening to was Invisible Touch by Genesis

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Definitely CD

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

To be honest, as good as the digital age is for getting heard, i’m personally just not a big fan of streaming, i much prefer to have a physical copy of something, i’m a bit of an audiophile so being able to put everything onto my computer as lossless versions is probably the main reason i go for CD.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?

I think for most bands one of the biggest challenges these days is getting people to turn out to shows. Venues over here in the UK are closing down everywhere because they just don’t get supported enough, the digital age definitely has its place in the music industry of course, but with everything being a finger tap or a mouse click away everything is so easy for people that when the time comes  to physically go out and see that band, it just doesn’t happen. It’s a lot easier to say you’re going to go on Facebook than it is to actually go. But for those that do make the effort to come and see us we have all the time in the world for, we talk to as many people as we can for as long as they want to because at the end of the day if we don’t work hard for it, why should anyone care about us?
