Sweet, Bad Loving – Jasmin Dolly

by C Bret Campbell January 17, 2013 8:47 pm Tagged With: electronica, Pop

One year! One freakin’ year! I never know what to expect when I open my inbox. Sometimes I get something mind-blowing.

avatars-000031174219-i13j2i-t200x200Jasmin Dolly sent her package over and asked if I knew anything about electronic pop music. I didn’t want to tell her that I grew up on Manheim Steamroller and Kraftwerk long before she was born… I just opened up the music and dug in…

“Bad Loving” was the first track I gave the spin to, as I read through her bio. about halfway through, I could envision the crowd at the club pounding this out and getting really “sweaty.” Cool, what’s next?

“Sky” and “Candy Store” (mmm sweet as bad lovin’) caught my attention. Cool extras and breakdowns with sounds that blended some almost “traditional” pop electronica with very avant-garde filtering. You know that always turns me on!

In “Call me JD” she gets into a bit of that popular rappin’ like groove with flying stereo effects and all manner of weirdness, ok, I’m on this trip…. Don’t be surprised if she starts dropping this one on some big festival stages at those 1am with the crazy lights and body-paint shows…. don’t be surprised if you see me there.

Oh, and that bio and my “One year!” remark?

In her short career Jasmin Dolly has amassed some impressive achievements. She was a star guest of honor in the 2012 UK Arab Achievement Awards, where she was awarded Best Fashion Designer. And her song “Call Me JD” has attracted several suitors. In addition to being featured in a Russian fashion video, the song will appear in the critically acclaimed Greek film, Luton. https://soundcloud.com/Jasmindolly
