The Recreation Station Make Room For The Sun

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 29, 2013 3:00 pm Tagged With: Folk, indie, Rock

Room for the Sun by Recreation Station

Shawn Wiederhoeft is, more or less, The Recreation Station. You should go read the interview. Room For The Sun is as serious – as in seriously good – as it is fun. Shawn’s flavor of indie folk rock is an uplifting experience balanced between playful rhythms and a gritty sandstorm. It’s pure energy. This album […]

Room for the Sun by Recreation Station

We recently had an opportunity to interview The Recreation Station, an indie (electro) folk-rock band originating from the great land of Madison, Wisconsin. Below Shawn Wiederhoeft answers questions as I try to learn more about the band and their music. Let’s jump in. Who are you? Where are you from? And what style of music […]

Hazard of the Die by Andy Palmer

“So much of our lives is a roll of the die. We become saints or criminals, monks or defendants largely because of what has happened to us and around us. A lot of who we are is out of our control.” Andy Palmer explains. Three years of being a public defender in Brooklyn, New York […]

Optic Yellow Felt

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 2, 2013 11:36 am Tagged With: Alternative, Brazil, Folk, indie, jazz, Rock, South America

Optic Yellow Felt first began its journey back in 1997 when the Nader brothers (born in Brazil but raised in the states), moved back to their homeland of Brazil. Being heavily influenced by the alternative rock scene in the US, songwriting became a natural part of the brothers’ lives. Optic Yellow Felt was officially formed […]

The Fire Inside David Sprague

David Sprague

It’s no coincidence that David Sprague titled his new album The Fire Inside. David is a true lover of music. When he picks up a guitar and starts to sing, dammit you listen. This young man and his instrument are a true expression of what happens when heart and soul speak through music. With catchy […]

David Sprague bears his soul loud and proud with his excellent blend of powerful indie acoustic rock. We recently had the opportunity to interview this talented musician from Dover, New Hampshire. Fading Away With Brando Albers

Brando Albers

As I hear the high winds navigating their way around the structure of this house while the rain blows in, Fading Away by Brando Albers overcomes my senses with its dark but poppy alternative electro-pop. Brando is a singer/songwriter from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and if I were fading away right now, I would want this […]

Devin Farney’s Magnum Passion Opus…Yet

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 17, 2013 3:14 pm Tagged With: composer, indie, jazz, pianist, Pop, Rock, San Francisco

Magnum Passion by Devin Farney

I knew Devin Farney’s album Magnum Passion was going to be something fresh, far from boring, and above the average album we receive from independent musicians. [I included the word “yet” in the headline because I honestly hope Devin isn’t finished creating masterpieces any time soon. I would hate to call this his greatest work […]

Sister Helen Hope To Leave No Harm

Hope To Leave No Harm by Sister Helen

Sister Helen is an aural onslaught of creative indie punk rock juices but the band’s sound refuses to follow any cliche patterns your ears might be used to. Hailing partly from Brooklyn, NY and partly from Hell’s Kitchen, the band’s bio aptly states: Sister Helen signifies a third way for modern rock music: neither to […]

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
