The Chicago Issue of Painted on Water

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman November 26, 2013 12:57 pm Tagged With: Alternative, Chicago, electronica, Illinois, Pop, Rock, United States

Chicago Issue by Painted on Water Painted on Water‘s debut album was a fusion of jazz, rock, electronica, and Turkish folk music… so what did they do for their new album?

“For this album, I wanted to change the way we collaborate, change all the methods we use to compose, and come up with new production techniques,” says composer/guitarist/producer DEMİR DEMİRKAN. “It’s been really liberating.”

Chicago based, Turkish descended composer/guitarist/producer DEMİR DEMİRKAN and vocalist SERTAB ERENER are the exciting new musical duo known as Painted on Water.

DEMİR and SERTAB’s relationship goes far beyond musical collaboration. The two have also been lovers for 16 years. This chemistry and passion shines brightly throughout all their songs.

Schooled in a wide variety of music from technical jazz to ethnic music to rock, pop, and all subgenres of electronic; these two creative talents are producing an album with an exciting sound, refreshing textures, and powerful blends of elements taken from multiple styles of music.

After debut shows and U.S. tours behind them, Painted On Water will not slow down until they make their mark.

One might say they are part of the bright future of music, but I say they are the right now with even better things coming their way.

The EP drops in November so be sure to get your copy. Then connect with this promising duo on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with the full album release and upcoming shows.
