The CORE of ARJUN

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman September 18, 2014 8:38 am Tagged With: Instrumental, jazz, New York, Rock, United States

CORE by ARJUN Do you like your rock mixed with a little jazz improv? Your jazz improv packed with a lot of soul? Your soul backed by a collective of musicians at the top of their craft?

Then you will want a copy of CORE by New York’s three-piece, ARJUN.

We reviewed their previous album, Space, so when they sent over a copy of CORE I couldn’t wait to see how their sound has developed.

CORE is a 7-song arrangement of exceptional instrumental jazz fusion. When you hear the intricacies of Eddie Arjun Peters’ guitar skills, you will know exactly why there are no vocals on this record… the guitar IS the vocal.

Backed by a stellar line-up, Eddie is joined by Lamar Myers and Andre Lyles to create one of the best independent bands I have discovered inside this style of music.

The album will not be available until September 23rd but I have included a stream of “Core” which features the masterful hands of John Medeski (Medeski Martin & Wood) on keys.

Core brings music back to it’s original essence. Back to the days when albums were released by real musicians. Before the time of mass manufactured, profit-motivated music.

Eddie, Lamar, and Andre communicate with their instruments throughout the entire record. Creative energies flowing inside a circle of force destined to take your mind on a journey through sound.

This is working music. Driving music. Exercising music. And even music you can turn up, kick back, and zone out with. Three masters of their instruments have created another opus.

One I have had on repeat for a week and will continue to jam for weeks to come.

Visit ARJUN’s website and get prepared to grab your copy of CORE on September 23rd.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
