The GoldRoom – Blissful Dissonance

by C Bret Campbell July 24, 2011 5:00 pm Tagged With: Alternative, Experimental, Murfreesboro, Nashville, Rock, United States

Out of Chaos comes Order

Gimme a Hand

In 1999 in the burgeoning town smack-dab in the center of Tennessee, known as Murfreesboro, a group of friends came together to release their feelings and dreams via the muse. Over the next few years, they grew closer together even though a few went their separate ways for a while. In 2006, this tight-knit group got together with renewed passion, vigor and dreams! Passion for life, vigorous zest, and dreams – that could at the same moment be nightmares or glimpses of heaven – drive The GoldRoom forward into the stratosphere making huge leaps every week.

The pulse of the music is compelled by the tight rhythm of Darin Ledford’s drums and Kevin Torbett’s bass.

Blazing Guitars!

Fueled by Shane Ball and Joey Campbell (man, I like that name) providing guitars that burn like rocket fuel, their sound is unlike anything we have heard before.  A touch of Pink Floyd, maybe a nod to the Smashing Pumpkins, the angst of Black Flag, the darkness of the Melvins… but, then again, nothing like any of it. This is a  group that is in their “own movie” as Ken Kesey would have said.

In-roads to sanity

With no less than six full-length albums under their belts, and another in the works, the seemingly insane sounds of The GoldRoom begin to make sense of themselves and lead the listener on a journey through madness that comes full circle to an understanding of psyche that is starkly real and sane.

Up-coming release – The Surrounding Hours can be heard on SoundCloud

In their own words, “Our song is a rope. Each strand bound tight and close, braided one to the other and twisted for grip. Wrapped over and over, each on top of the last, making one dense golden line. It has bound us to each other, back to back, four into one. This rope is for escape throws. We are reclusive and stubborn and grey. We are trapped in a basement, making hours of sound. Our testament is unplanned and desperate and loud. We swell in confinement until we leak through the walls. ”

Gold all Over

Branching out of The ‘Boro into Nashville, Knoxville,Chattanooga, and other venues all over TN, these cats are rockin their way to stardom! From Exit-In to Foo-Bar, to Grand Palace and Mercy Lounge, it won’t be long before you see them at major arena sized venues! Recently a “Featured Artist” on SoundCloud (propelling their followers from around 200 to over 3,000 in three weeks!) the guys are receiving honor everywhere they show up. I would expect that the ReverbNation gang also have some Gold in their sites.

I’ve known these cats since 1992 and even had the pleasure of making music with most of them on occasion, I’ve always been enthralled with their tunes! I listen to each new one they post, and I’ve heard about twenty today. Which is my favourite? Heck I don’t know, they All Rawk! give ’em a listen and decide for yourself, leave your thoughts in their comment sections, and let them know that “Jedi Bret” sent you. I got to speak with Mr. Torbett today, and extended an invitation for the band to join us at the “Red Raider Jam II“, if you approve, hit them up and let them know you would like to see them there! I know I would!
