by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 29, 2016 9:00 pm Tagged With: Ireland, Rock

Formed in March 2013, The Shout are a 5 Rock band from Belfast

Having released 3 singles and 3 music videos along with a successful UK Tour, The SHOUT made a lasting Impression in 2014,

The Shout then hit the studio in London to recorded their debut Mini Album WRITE-DELETE-REPEAT in which is available on all major online music stores.

Following the recording of the album the guys hit the UK for a second time for their second uk tour followed by a very successful Irish.

The Guys have now released their Official Music Video for Single WAIT FOR ME and are currently writing for a new EP along with a sting of shows across IRELAND.

In this interview, we chat with The Shout about influences, challenges, their newest project, and more.

Q&A, links, and a stream below.

Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)

individually we all grew up listening to different music. I “Colm – Vocals” grew up listening to The Likes Of Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41, FOB, All Time Low, The All American Rejects etc in which is obvious when listening to the style and format of the vocals and writing of lyrics. Darren, Dermot, Gavin and Adam grew up listening to Metal so we vary from Pop to Metal in which we  mixed together like a fine soup and out came our EP “Nowhere To Go But Home”

What led you into this journey with music? And further, what drives you to push it out to the public?

Music has always been apart of our lives. Growing up as kids it was always around us everywhere you looked. what kid doesnt want to be a rockstar? I Guess it just stook with us from growing up in the local scene in which was prob a major factor in how we all met, as without the local music scene we would never have met and THE SHOUT would not be a band. We love making music and we want to spread it with as many people as possible so we wanted to get it recorded and send it out, in hope people would like it. its all about making music that makes you happy and also making others happy, thats the plan.

Who or what influences your creativity? Have your tastes in music changed over time?

Influences come in the shape and form of our Heros and Every day life. Bands we all look up to and Bands who we go out to see live as much as wee can. Anything can be an Influence really when you think about it. Our music has changed alot of the last few years. Starting out at an acoutic act, then moving on to a full band setup. you can really hear the difference in the sound as time goes by. Maturing as we grow.

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?

The main thing we wanted to do with this EP was to give the band a re birth, a new sound. We have done recordings in the past that were too polished off and sounded nothing like we did live. We wanted a sound that showed what we are like live and we think we done a good job with that in this EP.  We worked with Declan Legge who recorded/produced the EP and done a fantasitc job. And also got Pete Maher ( Who worked with U2, The Rolling Stones, to name but a few) Master the EP who also done a fantastic job.

What was the last song you listened to?

The Last song i listened to was by a band called  A Day To Remember. Song titled “All I Want”

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

You cannot beat the sound of Vinyl.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

All Of the above are great platforms for getting your music out there, without them we wouldnt have heard of the band we listen to today. Spotify is awesome for Discovering new bands/music as it sends you updates ever other day of bands you may like. Awesome idea.

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what is the biggest challenge you face when trying to connect with or find new fans?

Our biggest challenge when trying to connect with fans is that you have to pay to reach out to people on social media. it sucks and hard working bands who spend thousands on what they do should not have to pay to show fans/potential fans what they have worked so hard for

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
