Psychedelic, experimental rock group The Striped Bananas came together a few years ago filling a void in psychedelic music on the East Coast. In true experimental fashion, the crew has released their single “Christmas 1914” which remembers the Christmas Truce during WWI between British, Germans and French troops.

A catchy jam, “Christmas 1914” is reminiscent of classic psych-rock of the ’60s. I’m taken back to an era when music was good and musicians could play.

Remembering what it was like before the war and longing for the peace that comes afterwards, The Striped Bananas take us on a journey through one of the last documented instances of chivalry between enemies at war. Troops put down their arms on Christmas Day singing Christmas Carols across the lines, exchanging good will, but also recovering bodies of the deceased.

The truce took place only 5 months after WWI started. The Striped Bananas explore that feeling of remembering what peace was like but also fulfilling the longing for the peace that comes afterwards. Pay attention to the lyrics.
