Thee Sadistic Jazz Duo to Play Murfreesboro – The Ex-Bombers

At Middle Tennessee Music, we see some of the best music in America, but we have never before heard or seen something like “thee sadistic jazz duo,” The Ex-Bombers.

In their promotional video for their latest vinyl LP “Five Star Night,” drummer / vocalist Keri Cousins plays a hypnotic femme fatale (complete with riding crop) while 8-string bassist / vocalist Scott Walus spins the album underneath a neon sign.

The video resembles a film noir marriage of French new wave cinema and the high point of MTV’s early days. The sound on the video resembles a marriage of the Velvet Underground and Black Sabbath, only far more sultry and with a hefty streak of 50s jazz.

From their description, the term “sadistic” stuck with us. The look is severe, like a de Sade novela, but their sound is narcotic in nature. We wrote and asked The Ex-Bombers what they meant by “sadistic.” Keri Cousins wrote back simply, “The perfect pleasure that comes from control.” Perhaps that is why the pair only releases their music on vinyl, even the order of songs is pre-determined by the pair.

On their first tour of the 2017 summer, The Ex-Bombers will be playing with their Cavetone Records label mates Apathy Wizards on a 10 day tour in May, where thee sadistic jazz duo will combine forces with the wandering gypsy folk punk four-piece from Murfreesboro.

The tour includes a May 12 show in the Apathy Wizards’ hometown at The Boro Bar at 1211 Greenland Drive. It is the ultimate yin and yang in sound and sight, where neon-cloaked sadistic jazz and infectious folk punk will engulf the senses for just one evening. It is not to be missed.
