The Tierney Sutton Band has been recording and touring for 23 years and has headlined in recent years at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. There are no sidemen in this multi-nominated group of like minded musicians, instead they are a unit, unique in their approach and fiercely loyal to a collective sensibility that has resulted in a constantly evolving and unparalleled musical experience.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with this awesome jazz quintet to discuss their new album, The Sting Variations, working on the score for Clint Eastwood’s new film with Tom Hanks, Sully, as well as navigating the digital age as an indie musician, how they’ve survived as a band for over two decades, and much much more.

This interview was filmed backstage at Catalina’s Jazz Club in Hollywood before performing music from their latest recording The Sting Variations.

The band also performed some of the music they co-wrote for the major motion picture Sully, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Tom Hanks. The movie soundtrack has just been released and features their entire score with beautiful orchestrations by Christian Jacob, improvisations by the TSB and musical collaborations with Clint Eastwood that includes lyrics by Tierney Sutton.

2016 has been a groundbreaking year for this band of friends, and here they talk a bit about their latest projects, the unique qualities of this band and the business of music.

I want to send many thanks and respect to the band and their team for helping us make this happen.

You can find links to the new album, the soundtrack for the Sully film, and much more on Tierney Sutton’s website.

The band members, as they sit in the below video, are (from left to right): Kevin Axt: bass, Trey Henry: bass, Ray Brinker: drums, Christian Jacob: piano, Tierney Sutton: vocals
