WakeUpSideDowntown with the Mike Delledera Band

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 5, 2014 12:14 pm Tagged With: Blues, indie, Rock, singer, songwriter

WakeUpSideDowntown by Mike Delledera Band Mike Delledera‘s genre-bending, uplifting, and imaginative songs were burning a hole in his heart but he needed some help…so he decided to tap into the power of crowd sourcing via Kickstarter.

Obviously that campaign was a success because here I am presenting you with this fine piece of work, WakeUpSideDowntown.

Having studied classical piano since the age of 3, guitar since 13, and continuing his education with formal training in jazz, classical guitar, and jazz arranging – there is nothing more I can say to express the high caliber of song crafting occurring throughout this record.

I could also mention his studies in rock guitar and composition with iconic guitarist Carlos Alomar who worked with legends such as John Lennon and Iggy Pop; or maybe point out that Mike has shared stages with platinum selling Rusted Root as well as Tea Leaf Green, Ra Ra Riot, and DJ Logic.

Much of this album was recorded live in the studio. Tracked by Grammy winner Steve Addabbo and including some of NYC’s finest session musicians, there is nothing short of excellent about this album.

Humbly, Delledera says: “To have a vision, make it come to life, and exceed what I imagined is really gratifying. It’s something that I’ve been writing and working on for nearly two years. I’m proud of this achievement and eager to share these songs with the world.”

WakeUpSideDowntown has something for everyone with its fusion of bluegrass, swamp funk, gospel, rock, excellent song structure, catchy hooks, virtuosic musicianship, and lyrics that can and will touch any person experienceing human emotions.

I’ve already listened to it more than once. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until May 13th to tap into this greatness.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
