Wisdom and Failure

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 7, 2014 12:01 pm Tagged With: Electro, synth pop

no:carrierWe recently reviewed the Confessions EP by no:carrier. Well, we finally received a copy of the full album, Wisdom & Failure.

For those that need a reminder of what we’re dealing with; here’s what Chris Wirsig (main songwriter and producer) says about the project:

We have our very own sound that includes elements from several styles – from Dark Wave to Synthpop, from Acoustic to Electro,” says Chris. “We found our own way, we are not going on the trodden paths. We stay true to our ideals and write exactly the songs we want to write.”

Originally founded in 1995 in Germany, no:carrier has been in its current form since 2001 and it is now a long distance collaboration. Chris now lives in San Francisco while singer Cynthia Wechselberger remains in Germany.

Releasing My Own Dreams in 2002 and Between the Chairs in 2011 the group is back with Wisdom & Failure. The full length follow-up to the Confessions EP.

These 12 tracks include a wide variety of electronic music styles with a healthy mix of world influences; including Arabic instrumentation as well as drums and percussion elements of various cultures.

The Confessoins EP covered a wide range of topics from introspection to defiance to biographical stories. Wisdom & Failure extends on these themes as the songs move through painful memories, fears of things to come, and tragic destinies.

As the main characters of this drama keep looking back at ghosts from their past, they learn to stay strong, never lose focus, and to go get it…no matter what.

The songs, above all else, deal with the strength that is necessary to go your own way.” Songwriter Chris Wirsig says, “It’s about being strong, fighting against adversities. You look back, you learn from the past, and maybe you also despair of it. But you stick to your intentions, do what you want, and you go for it, regardless of what others say, regardless of which opinions you hear, regardless of if you’ll succeed or fail.”

As the album is released, no:carrier will tour Cali with artist Cassidy Bliss Cooper who is responsible for the album artwork. An art exhibit will be on tour with the group. You will be able to catch them live in Europe later in 2014.
