Wishpenny Secrets shared about the MusicTree Fest

by C Bret Campbell May 26, 2012 5:15 pm Tagged With: Americana

Wishpenny out of Nashville – Music City USA – will be in the Mid-Tenn town of Manchester, for the MusicTree Festival  at the end of the month (May 31-June 6) to bring their laid back Americana and alterntive-country tunes to the stage at the Coffee Cafe, Monday June 4.

We’ve been collecting text interviews from as many of the MusicTree artists as we can (you may have noticed). Regina and Brian of Wishpenny sent this one in. I’ve had a blast reading all of these, but this is one of my favorites. It reminds me of talking to my dad – short, and to the point. It’s obvious that they pour their creative energies into their music! Check it out while you read a bit and meet, Whishpenny.

How long have you been playing?
10 years together — we were married and started playing together.

What do you do for fun?
“regina – photography
brian – vintage audio”

How’s the scene in your home town?
we live in Nashville, we like it.

What’s on your personal music playlist this week?
JJ Cale “Naturally,” David Gray “Draw the Line,” Chris Pureka “How I learned to see in the Dark,” Bahamas “Pink Strat,” and Mick Flannery “LIve at Cork Opera House.”

Can you pin-point the moment that you knew you wanted to be a performing musician?
not really…

What are your goals as a musician? How far would you like to go, what do you see as the next big hurdle?
write good songs and play them well … and that is hard to do. Currently we are rehearsing songs to record another CD.

Describe one of your most memorable moments in music.
seeing Lucinda Williams at the Tennessee Theatre in support of “Car Wheels on a Gravel Road”

What song makes you dance when you’re cleaning house?
no dancing while cleaning house, that’s serious business

Tell us about some of your musical influences.
family traditions of singing and playing good songs. we like good songwriters: Lucinda, Buddy and Julie Miller, Patty Griffin, David Gray, Slaid Cleaves, Phoebe Snow. mountain music and the 70s (not that we’re opposed to other decades)

Where would you choose to build a vacation home?
we are lucky to live in Nashville and would prefer to travel to different destinations rather than having a vacation home in one place

How did you learn of Music Tree?
internets

How do you feel about being a part of the Music Tree Festival?
Excited, looking forward to seeing some good shows
we are looking forward to playing and meeting some folks. currently we are confirmed for Monday June 4th, 6:30pm at Coffee Cafe in downtown Manchester (and possibly for a second show on Tuesday), come on out for dinner and we’ll play you some songs!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
