Xi.me.na Borges Makes Joyful Noise…But Not Like You’re Expecting To Hear

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 14, 2013 9:28 am Tagged With: Experimental, jazz

Joyful Noise by Ximena BorgesOne woman + 1 voice + 1 body + 0 instruments + 5 languages = Xi.me.na Borges and her new vocal experimental album, Joyful Noise.

“In my experience, Christmas is chaos filled with love. I wanted to make something that represented that and by finding all the different voices inside myself I realized I could be that chaos!” says Borges.

Teaming up with producer Gonzalo Grau, Ximena recorded inside a closet for 3 weeks. Taking well-known songs from around the world, the two worked long and hard to create something fresh and unique in the form of vocal experimentation. In the words of Ximena,

Each song took a long time because each layer had to be perfect and by the end of the day I had no voice left to even speak!

For the album release, Borges ran a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project. With 139 backers she raised over $12,000 and because of this; we are able to enjoy Ximena’s Joyful Noise.

This is exciting. This is refreshing. And it’s just in time for the holidays!

It’s going to be hard to top this one for my holiday listening this year.

Learn more about Ms. Borges by visiting her website.

You can grab the album from Bandcamp then connect with Ximena on Facebook or Twitter.
