AITP Festival performers, The Dreaming Society

by C Bret Campbell August 30, 2013 1:07 pm

Band_crop_website2The AITP Online Festival just keeps getting bigger and better all the time! Today, we learn a bit about performing artists from The Dreaming Society, one of Mid Tenn’s favorites.

Tell us a little about yourself. how and when did you start making music?
Shelah: We started writing and playing music together as “The Dreaming Society” over 2 years ago. However, Karl and I have been writing music together since 2005, and it began in a band we called “The Patchwork Quilt Fallacy”.Why do you do it, now?
Karl: Because we are musicians and that’s what musicians do! 😉

What were some of your early influences and what inspires you today?
Karl: Metallica, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins. Today, I am inspired mostly by the bands Paramore and Mutemath.

Shelah: Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan are my all-time inspirations. Toss in a hint of Nine Inch Nails and Silverchair and we’re good to go! Recently, I’ve really been into Florence and the Machine.

What was the last song you listened to (disc in the car or what-not)?
Shelah: Let’s see, just yesterday I was listening to “You’re the Inspiration” by Chicago, and also Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer”. It was one of those two.

How did you connect with Artists in the Plus and what attracted you to working with them?
Shelah: My online friend introduced me to Bret Campbell (that’s you!) and Mid-Tenn Music. One thing led to another and in a hangout we did with Mid-Tenn, we met John Voshell. He saw our performance and invited us to be endorsed by Artists in the Plus. John told us all about AITP and we were stoked to work with them.
Last year’s festival was a huge success and changed a lot of things about music on the net. Were you a part of that?
Nope. Wish we were! We had yet to meet all the good folks at AITP.
What would you like to see as a result of the festival, this year?
As a band, we’d love to gain more fans across the world and meet some more cool bands who are also in L.A. so we can book some gigs together.

Have you been using services like Hangouts On Air, U-Stream, Street-Jelly, or others to perform live via video on line? What kind of reaction are you getting?
We’ve been using Hangouts On-Air. The reactions have been pretty darn good, as we seem to attract more interest in our music with each one. We think Hangouts On-Air and Google Plus are the future of online music!
Village Studios in LA will be hosting the festival, this year and there will be a studio stage in North Carolina and another in Norway. Will you be travelling or performing remote from your own studio?

We will be traveling to Village Studios, which for us is not that far because we live in Los Angeles. Right on!

If you could ask one performer to join you on a record, who would it be?

Karl: Billy Corgan.

What one thing would you change about this world, if you could?

Shelah: Our reliance on non-renewable resources such as oil. I would love to see the day when a majority of the world is energy-conscious, with affordable electric vehicles and solar powered homes.
Where can we find you and your music?

Why, glad you asked! The best places to find our music are on our website which is www.thedreamingsociety.com, and/or on Facebook atfacebook.com/thedreamingsociety. Our most recent, self-titled album is also available on iTunes and Amazon.com. We’re also on Pandora, so you can create yourself a Dreaming Society station!

In closing, is there anything you would like to add or anyone you would like to shout-out to?
Thank you John Voshell with Artists in the Plus for creating AITP and your dedication and undying support to independent music, David Santy for all of your awesome (and very needed) Hangouts audio help,  Domingo Rogers for making sure that we created a Google Plus band profile, and last but not least Bret Campbell and Stephen Clower from Mid-Tenn Music for all of your wonderful press support!! We are so happy to be a part of the AITP family and are looking forward to a great festival!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
