by C Bret Campbell February 17, 2013 11:15 pm Tagged With: Austin

So it’s cold. I’ve had a crap day. The second router in six months burned up on me last night, and i spent the whole day trying to suss out the problem, get my beat up truck to town, come up with cash and put some “minutes” on the mobile 3g card. It took all […]

Matthew Heller joins JediBret – audio interview

by C Bret Campbell February 8, 2013 11:16 pm

Matthew Heller

I had the pleasure of talking with Matthew Heller yesterday. Joshua turned me on to his music which is like a velvet covered sledge hammer that pummels the psyche into blissful submission. Heller’s tunes are complicated, simple but complicated… they tell bits of stories from his own life mixed with reality and fantasy, hope and […]

by C Bret Campbell February 8, 2013 12:46 am

Joshua sent me over to Alberta’s site to check out their latest indie EP, “Caves”. He had been reviewing one of the group’s other records, and thought I’d like it. Well, after over a dozen listens, I had all these great comparisons of caves and music ( as a former guide for the second largest […]

Nakia – SXSW Bound, via HOA!

by C Bret Campbell February 1, 2013 3:37 pm Tagged With: Austin

I just got a hangout invite from my new friend, Hayley at Google-Austin. What a groovy hangout, too! She’s got Nakia (with  guitarist Ulrich) on and it’s just rockin’! Now, you probably know I don’t see a whole lot of TV, so this is a brand new find to me. A bit of background:  Austin-based, Alabama-raised singer/songwriter […]

Brother/Sister duo Edward and Alex Bell along with drummer Cody Jako joined forces in Iowa City to “create a musical style they had never ventured in before. The songs are led by guitarist and lyricist Cody Janko, as he creates characters that experience tales of love, hate, defeat, and conquest, all while keeping an optimistic […]

Sweet, Bad Loving – Jasmin Dolly

by C Bret Campbell January 17, 2013 8:47 pm Tagged With: electronica, Pop

One year! One freakin’ year! I never know what to expect when I open my inbox. Sometimes I get something mind-blowing. Jasmin Dolly sent her package over and asked if I knew anything about electronic pop music. I didn’t want to tell her that I grew up on Manheim Steamroller and Kraftwerk long before she […]

Manthei – soundtrack for Life

by C Bret Campbell January 17, 2013 7:48 pm Tagged With: Roots, southern rock

Canadian singer, composer performer Mark Manthei sent me a request the other day that was a bit different. He asked my opinion on what genre to classify his music in. That’s a hard one to answer. Of course he was also interested in MidTn’s opinion of his work. The first track I got to was […]

Headlining at Radio Lightning 100’s Nashville Sunday Night at 3rd & Lindsley in Music City U.S.A. on January 6, 2013, Honey Honey rocked the house! That’s all I can say! Suzanne and the whole band thrilled the packed house with their eletrified banjo and fiddle fueled roots alternative music. After the show we hung around […]

Sunday, Jan 6 2013, at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville, Music City, U.S.A. we met the guys from Roadkill Ghost Choir. They put on a rowsing show with some great songs and energy that can’t be beat. Great guitars, steel, banjo, and trumpet (ya know I’m a sucker) fill up the soundstage as a bed […]

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
