Minor Prophets Give It All On “Right Of Entry”

by C Bret Campbell August 23, 2013 1:14 pm Tagged With: Pop

mp-0912a-minor-prophets

We’ve been getting to know Bobby G and Lady K of Minor Prophets. The faith based pop / soul band from FLA recently released “Right of Entry” – a slam-bang-wham-bam-and-thank-you-mom slap in the face debut that throw stereotypical ideas of Christian music on the street and some tight popping funky-grind-booty-shakin tracks on the wax. I’ve […]

Sidewalk Chalk – let’s Write It on the Walls

by C Bret Campbell August 13, 2013 10:24 am Tagged With: Chicago, Hip Hop, Illinois, jazz, Nashville, United States

sidewalkchalk-website-3

“Sidewalk Chalk are performing at The Basement in Nashville on August 21. These guys mix up hiphop, jazz, soul and funk; they have a rapper, singer, horn section and even a tapdancer. Chicago Reader gave them the 2010 award for Best Chicago HipHop Act and they’ve gotten shoutouts from CBS, Lupe Fiasco and many more.” … […]

Magnetic Whale by Luka Veselinovic

Luka Veselinovic comes from a musical family including his father who is a guitarist for the commercial pop band “Opatijski Suveniri” as well as his grandmother who is a classical piano teacher. Starting at age 6, Luka studied piano for 3 years but eventually gave it up. With no intention of living a musician’s life, […]

Exploring Oceans With dizzybloom

Oceans by dizzybloom

dizzybloom goes deep. This is more than just music. This is the collective soul of a dedicated, passionate group of musicians and songwriters. This is the sound of walking the path less traveled, being beaten off that path, and somehow finding your way back on track to soak in the golden rays of a rewarding […]

Beto Hale won’t be falling down with this “Rebirth”

by C Bret Campbell August 6, 2013 10:26 pm

Beto Hale

Born in Mexico, playing and performing since childhood, going from formal training to DIY, back to “school” at Berkley, and reinventing himself constantly over the last few decades, Beto Hale is out with his latest “Rebirth.” He’s played everything from classical and traditional regional music to punk and everything in between. Rebirth is a journey […]

A musician since childhood – the sixth musical generation in a long heritage of a musical family – Joy Mover has been honing her skills among some of the best and brightest in the modern jazz field for years. Now in 2013, she has released a debut album that has completely rocked my world this […]

Looking at Christopher Thompson’s “Mirror Mirror”

If you’ve kept up for the last couple years, you may have noticed that I have been writing about music and Google Plus since it was still in beta. Thousands of musicians have joined G+ and use it in a multitude of ways. Out of them all, a few names have become almost ubiquitous when […]

Los Hipsters No Bailan

Los Hipsters No Bailan by Son de Brooklyn

What happens when you combine the sounds of “La época de oro” (1930s-1950s) in Cuba with the American Jazz scene of the same time period? Son De Brooklyn and their latest release Los Hipsters No Bailan. “Cuban grooves with a shot of Brooklyn”, as it so aptly states in their bio. Taylor Watson had a […]

Heather Luttrell, Possumdiva

Possumdiva by Heather Luttrell

Without having to press play on this album, I already like it. The headline of the One Sheet in Heather’s EPK reads: Outlaw Americana for the Thinking Drunk Don’t you like it already, too? Indie bands take note. Most of you still need to learn the meaning of EPK. Heather Luttrell is the Possumdiva and […]

K-Bass Hits the Stage as Hard as the Track

by C Bret Campbell July 27, 2013 12:48 pm Tagged With: Reggae

His name is K-Bass ( Bassirima Soro ) from South Africa. He made a name for himself as “The Barefoot Runner,” winning races and marathons, and gaining national and global fame, even having been featured on shows NPR and other major news outlets. I’ve even heard and read stories (Sports Illustrated) of how people in the […]

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
