Need A Psych-Rock Fix? Crooked Flower Deliver with Darkness and Light

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 22, 2018 11:34 am Tagged With: California, Psychedelic, Psychedelic Rock, Rock, United States

Crooked Flower-Darkness and Light

Psychedelic rockers Crooked Flower have a new album coming out very very soon (tomorrow May 23rd to be exact)! It is titled Darkness and Light and it is a four track exploration through the creative minds, sounds and seasoned musicianship of this talented and mind expanding collective.

I always enjoy a good story behind the music and Crooked Flower is no exception. Here’s an abridged version…

Daniel Erik (bass) was only 4 years old when he first entered the home studio of Dan Ingberman (guitar). Back then, Dan was a songwriter and guitarist performing around the St. Louis area. Ingberman’s home studio was enough to capture the mind and imagination of young Daniel. By the time Daniel hit first grade, he was performing live as a guitarist!

Young Daniel grew up, left St. Louis for Berkeley, California and reconnected with Ingberman. Ingberman had moved on to teach at UC Berkeley while working as an expert economist on matters crucial to the music industry. Of course the duo started playing together. A few years pass and the duo doubles into the core four now including Patrick Shields on drums and percussion and Angelina Dang on vocals, guitar and keyboards.

Patrick had studied music at the University of Denver while playing in several noteworthy bands. Angelina was already established as an indie R&B/soul singer/songwriter prior to joining Crooked Flower.

To add a little more potency to this already groovy storyline, the band released 3 albums during 2016-17 recording at Green Day’s Jingletown Studios in Oakland while Lee Bothwick (Green Day) engineered and Gordon Brislawn (Journey, The Expendables) produced! Daniel and Dan also worked on the albums as co-producers alongside Gordon.

With their newest release, Darkness and Light, Crooked Flower continue delivering high caliber musicianship, potent psych-rock vibes and an EP of songs which make the perfect background for a list of occasions: long drives, while working or doing house chores, just vibing out or simply satisfying your need for some classic-feeling but refreshing psychedelic sensations.

Connect with Crooked Flower on their official website, Facebook or Soundcloud.

You can also find videos on Youtube.

Darkness and Light will be available tomorrow (May 23, 2018).

You can jam Crooked Flower’s previous albums: The Moon, Anyway, On My Mind and End of the Rainbow.
