Interview with D. Francisco – Pop-Operatic Latin Dance

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 6, 2016 9:45 am Tagged With: dance, Pop

D.Francisco

D. FRANCISCO is a true artist who has successfully melded old-world charm with vivacious Latin-Pop. As opposed to the trend-driven experiences of most artists his age, D. FRANCISCO has honed his craft through years of diligent training and commitment.

From his early instrumental lessons and exposure to opera and symphony; through touring with the celebrated Phoenix Boys Choir; private and undergraduate vocal studies culminating in an opera internship in Rome, Italy; and finally additional vocal training with the eminent Seth Riggs, D. FRANCISCO has created a proficient foundation that is reflected in his stunning and unique merging of Operatic-Pop, Latin-Pop, and EDM.

In this interview, singer/songwriter D.FRANCISCO graciously shares a few moments of his time to answer some questions about his influences, what attracted him to this style of music, and his new project.

His newest single “I Want Ya“ is now available.

Introduce yourself to our readers and describe the style of music you create.

Hello out there! I’m D. FRANCISCO and I’m a singer-songwriter who combines & elides Pop-opera, Latin-Pop, & Dance genres.

Why did you choose this style or genre(s)? What attracts you to it?

As an artist and as a human being, one must be true to oneself, and my music is the best reflection of this. I’m a bit old-world & traditional, hence the Pop-opera; proud of my roots & Hispanicity, hence the Latin-Pop; and am upbeat & like to have fun, hence the Dance element.

Who or what influences your playing or writing styles? Also, what motivates you to keep creating?

I love many different kinds of music – Classical, Jazz, Latin, EDM, Rock, Pop – and they all influence and inspire me in different ways. What motivates me most is how music conveys emotion in such a heightened and profound manner, and wanting to use this universal language to connect with others.

What was the last song you listened to?

It’s a hauntingly beautiful German Art Song called “Die Meere” by Johannes Brahms. Be sure to check it out!

Was there specific you were trying to accomplish creatively, or otherwise, on your newest project?

My goal was to mix these various genres in a new and refreshing way, & I’m very proud of the result.

Do you gig, tour or perform through any live streaming services? Where can music lovers see you perform?

I love live performance and am in the works for concert and touring schedule. In the meantime, you can see both the English and Spanish versions of my music video, “I Want Ya“, on my YouTube channel.

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

Besides YouTube, I’m on Spotify, Twitter, Facebook, & my own webpage .

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Life is a precious gift. Live each day with all the gusto possible!

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
