Double Shot with Arsena Schroeder on Guitar

by C Bret Campbell September 23, 2013 5:59 pm

Our Double Shot series includes an interview question and a song feature from an independent band or musician near you. The goal is to allow you to learn more about the bands we feature in smaller, more digestible amounts of content.

Grab your cup of coffee, click play, and allow us to continue getting to know Arsena.

Today’s Double Shot features Beauty for Ashes from Arsena Schroeder.

What inspired you to pick up a guitar and try to make music?
I ordered my first guitar off of guitarcenter.com on a whim. I had a TON of melodies and lyrics that were flowing through my head my sophomore year of college. At the time, I reached out to a female worship pastor at a church I was attending hoping to get help with writing music to my lyrics. She declined my request, but I was determined to bring my music to life, so I ordered a guitar online and a instructional beginner’s guitar DVD. I popped guitar strings my first day trying to tune. So I ran off to buy new strings and stumbled across private guitar lessons–much needed lessons. 🙂

Crafting original songs soaked in singer-songwriter, acoustic, and pop-soul genres, issues of empowerment, love, and cryptic faith are lyrically intertwined in a mix meant to free and fuel the soul.

Arsena began her journey as a singer-songwriter and instrumentalist in the Fall of 2009 and has since then performed locally, nationally, and internationally at venues such as The Evening Muse in Charlotte, NC, Ebenezer’s Coffeehouse in Washington, DC, Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia, PA, and Ponticifia Madre Y Maestra in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She’s also competed and advanced in a round as an American Idol contestant. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and Sociology, Arsena turned down a full-ride to graduate school to pursue her passion in music. She now serves as the Musician’s Overseer at Charlotte’s 24-7, a local expression of a global prayer movement, and tours as a solo-acoustic performer.
