Emerald Suspension Delivers A Style, or Non-Style, All Their Own, Eruptions Now Available

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 11, 2020 9:12 am Tagged With: Electronic, Experimental, industrial

Emerald Suspension-Eruptions

Minnesota based electronic noise sorcerers Emerald Suspension create unorthodox, experimental music that takes elements of industrial, noise, drone and musique concrete and mixes them with all styles (and non-styles) of music.

The result?

A complete stimulation of all the senses compliments of an immersive sonic experience.

Emerald Suspension‘s first project involved utilizing stock market and economic data, with a wild imagination and some crafty musicianship, to create their first project Playing the Market. Seriously?! Who thinks of these things?

Their second full-length, DIVINATION, soon followed.

Revving up for a March 2020 release for their newest project, Eruptions, Emerald Suspension continues their no-holds-barred approach to sound design and song creation.

Combining an unpredictable mix of vocal samples, noise, sound effects, guitar, percussion, some DIY instrumentation, and inspiration from Eddie Van Halen’s famous guitar solo of the same name, Eruptions is a wild ride through soundscapes you could never imagine…until now.

There’s nothing that exists I can easily compare Emerald Suspension’s work with. The group makes sonic statements similar to John Cage and his infamous piece, 4″33′.

One minute you’re experiencing the eruption of electric guitars layered with noises and infused with effects that not even the gods could not decode. In fact, speaking of the gods, Eruption (track 2) sounds like the soundtrack the fallen angels probably jammed on their descent from the heavens.

Skip to the ending track Your Eurorack, and we learn how the group really…really…feels about your Eurorack setup.

In between that chaos are tracks like Jaded, fueled by a jaded vocal sample, a busy bass line and and infinite encore of electric guitar noises and effects that create an impenetrable wall of sound.

Or you can find the random general but generally random General Random. An easily memorable guitar lick leads us into an abrupt transition into the finest explosive noise rock you could squeeze into 1 minute and 39 seconds.

Bottom line, Emerald Suspension deliver sonic wizardry. Time to take the ride.
