Potion Me Well With Foam Ropes’ Flavor of Indie Pop

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 22, 2015 10:26 am Tagged With: indie, Pop, singer, songwriter

Foam Ropes is an Indie Pop fantastic voyage through the master craftsmanship of one singer/songwriter Derek Nicoletto.

Leaving his path in music to study acting, little did Derek know the universe would lead him full circle. His 9 song, self-titled debut is an aurally refreshing ode to the great solo songcrafters who have contributed to this world’s catalog of indie pop’s more soulful expressions.

During my studies, I had been opened, stretched and peeled,’ Derek confides. ‘Truths had emerged from my life that I previously really didn’t desire to explore. I knew that with this openness – and the relief that I got from channeling myself through the characters on stage – I could attack a band, a new musical project – a record, in an entirely new way. I chose the name Foam Ropes versus making this a solo album because I wanted it to stand alone. This work is coming from a new and vulnerable spot.”

Having received spins and chart placements on FM and college radio stations on top of song placements with entities including MTV, VH1, NBC, FuseTV, State Farm, Hyundai, and many more; I have no reason to go on about how polished the album sounds or how moving the songs happen to be.

From the slower soulful tunes to the hard rocking jams, you’ll find yourself holding back tears seconds before jumping out of your chair to strum that nice, shiny air guitar.

Some favorites include: ‘Potion Me Well’, ‘Celery Road’, ‘You Make Loving Fun’ and ‘Bad Apples’; but each song has something unique providing an eclectic sound palette for listeners.
