Geoff Gibbons Impresses with Meticulously Crafted Songs and High Grade Musicianship on Buffalo Hotel

Geoff Gibbons-Buffalo Hotel

Canada based singer/songwriter and musician Geoff Gibbons has arrived with a delightful, very engaging and enticing new folk/country rock album Buffalo Hotel.

Masterful song crafting, top grade musicianship, lush harmonies, memorable melodies, honest lyrics that cut straight to the core of the human experience, and an unmatched grasp of roots music traditions is evident throughout the entire album.

Originally from Vancouver, Gibbons has lived a life immersed in music. As a full time working musician and a producer/engineer, he played in a steady stream of bands in his younger years. At 20 years of age, Geoff headed to Australia’s Gold Coast to perform for tourists and more. Teaming up with a friend, the duo Silverlode was formed; the duo returned to Canada and performed on stages with Emmylou Harris, The McGarrigle Sisters, David Crosby, Levon Helm and Rick Danko (of The Band).

In his solo career, as a songwriter and composer for visual based projects, Geoff has created music for television shows including Higher Ground, Just Cause, Robson Arms, the animation: Mook and the adult comedy series The Mr. Dink Show. Gibbons also composed the score and songs for Wolf Moon (aka Dark Moon Rising.)

About Buffalo Hotel, Geoff states,

It began with me compiling…I combed the material until it started taking shape.”

Reaching out to John McArthur Ellis to help with production, Geoff continues,

We’d been trying to work together for years. We started going to the next level with it. I had probably 20 songs demoed. We focused in on 12.”

Those twelve songs are the gems that make up the consistently catchy, grooving, roots rockin’ jams of Buffalo Hotel.

Finding inspiration and strong influences in the South, Geoff and friends traveled to Muscle Shoals, Memphis and Nashville before putting together this album. The experiences from their travels emanate throughout the new record.

When I got back home I wasn’t just inspired, I was altered,” Geoff remembers. “It was like traveling to a musical Mecca.”
