Hugh Morrison – “Not Your Time” – Thank Goodness!

by C Bret Campbell September 12, 2014 4:41 am

hugh-morrison-CD-Baby-CoverHugh Morrison sent over his latest record, “Scotland is Free” the other day, and thank goodness he did! I’ve been in need of something a li’l different.

Hugh asked me to check out the track, “Not Your Time.” It’s a quick ditty that leaves just enough of the story out to allow the listener to interpret the intent on his own. From the point of view of one who seems ready to give up the good fight, the answer from on High comes back, “It’s Not Your Time.” This kind of hits home with me. I imagine it will with a lot of folks trying to get by in this messed up “new world.” If you’ve been struggling just to get out of bed and get on with the day, pop this one on and pop out from under that blanket. Heck if Morrison’s tune can get me up and moving, it can do the same  for you.

Traditional Scottish sounds and melodies bounce and weave to create an authentic sounding piece. Rattling snares and driving acoustic guitar backing with penny-whistle and flute carrying the reel make the feet want to dance (good trick for a two-left-feet fellow like me).

After playing “Not Your Time” a few times, I couldn’t resists spinning the rest of the disc. Maybe it’s something old that calls to my roots, or perhaps it’s just good music. I’m going with the latter. Morrison’s take on these sounds and melodies that go back centuries is authentic and touching. From good old-fashioned drinking songs to lovely ballads, he and the band nail it all the way through! Get a copy here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/scotland-is-free/id898563596

This is a record I’ll be saving to the Nexus tablet! Thanks, Hugh! I’ll be looking for more, and sending you some contact info to take advantage of when you’re in the Mid Tenn area.
