Interview with Black And Blue – Run To California

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 31, 2018 9:13 am Tagged With: alternative rock, indie rock, New York, Rock, United States

Black and Blue

In this interivew spotlight, I chat with Black And Blue about their latest project, motivations, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Max: We are from New York and we create Alternative Rock music fused with R&B, Pop, elements of Hip Hop, and Funk.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Max: When I was about 13 years old, a close friend of mine introduced me to this band Panic! At The Disco. I was dealing with depression at the time, but I found that whenever I listened to that band, my depression would go away. So I wanted to create music and do the same for our fans. I want to help others so that they can use our music & art as a sense of catharsis. I can never truly know what anyone else is going through, but my motivation to create music is to help others. I wanna keep creating the best music that I can so that it can resonate with others and not only will they enjoy it, but it will help them.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Max: This is our first release. We have a lot of music we’ve written that we wanna put out, but we thought that this song would be a great intro to who we are as a band. As well, our debut EP consists of 4 carefully chosen tracks that we feel give a great first taste to our unique sound.

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

Max: It’s tough to get to people to listen to our music when there’s so much music out there & so many new artists releasing great stuff every day. There’s just so much noise. However, we feel that social media is the best platform for us to get our music out there and heard.

Where can we follow you online and hear more music?
