Interview with Chadio – Cousin of Lucy

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 28, 2023 9:03 am Tagged With: Canada, Hip Hop, rap

Chadio-Cousin of Lucy

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Chadio about the latest music, the impossible task of choosing a favorite all-time song, dream collabs, and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Are you able to choose a favorite song of all time? Or would you label this an impossible task? If yes, what’s the song? If no, what’s your current Top 3?

Absolutely not. There is far too much music out there I love to be able to have such a short list. I started a playlist recently of what I consider to be the “best songs of all time” and there’s already 55 songs on there. What I’m listening to will depend on the mood I’m in, so even picking a current top 3 is impossible. I’ve been listening to a lot of Rome Streetz and Griselda stuff lately.

What about this project makes you most proud? Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

This project is the product of the nastiest betrayal I have ever experienced, so I’m proud to have been able to get these feelings off my chest and really let it be known that this wasn’t a normal scenario. And also that feelings of anger don’t last forever, life goes on, etc. People say that pain breeds great art, so I think that applies here. It’s also a continuation, or part 2, of my 2021 album with beatmaker The Dirty Sample, called “No Wives Club” also on Hand’Solo Records.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

Music for me is therapeutic, and most of what I write about is very journalistic, or speaking from my personal experiences, often in the first person. I am inspired and motivated by sound, and that feeling of when you’ve found something new, all genres of music are intriguing to me and all have good and bad parts about them. I did think at one point that I would stop, but since I’m making it for myself, these albums will be like my diaries or journals to look back on when I’m older. It happens less these days, but I still get body shivers from really great music

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

Probably MC Paul Barman. Dude is hilarious and can rap really well. Completely different style than anybody else which I like – https://mcpb.bandcamp.com/

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

Outkast, Moka Only, Buck 65, Radiohead & Bjork. – Last song I played real loud was “Hunger Strike” by Temple Of The Dog. Been stuck in my head recently lol.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

I appreciate your time. Want to say or plug any other projects before we part ways?

You’re all you really got in this life, nobody is coming to save you. If you want something, start taking the steps toward making that happen. Be good to people that love you. Health is wealth. & When the working day is done, girls just wanna have fun. Music wise, I’ve got some super nasty shit on the way. Look out for the Quoted Motives “days of the week” EPs coming soon, and another solo album “Draw Something” coming next. Also have a project coming soon that The Gumshoe Strut from Winnipeg did all the beats for. Shout out to all the people that show love. Thanks for having me!
