Interview with Cory M. Coons – Once Too Many, Twice Not Enough

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 13, 2019 7:54 am Tagged With: folk rock, singer, songwriter

Cory M Coons

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Cory M. Coons about his music, technology, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Be sure to check out our previous article.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from just outside of a small town in Eastern Ontario, Canada called South Mountain. (South of Ottawa). I consider my music to be very honest and down to earth, with a blend of Melodic Rock and Roots Rock, and a few hints of Country-Rock.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

Passion, Passion and Passion!!! 😉

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

I’m just trying to stay true myself as a performer, songwriter and recording artist… I feel very blessed to still be doing what I love to do, and I feel very “rooted” and grounded with my current release, and upcoming new material that I continue to create!

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

The challenge is we are now one of a million artists on the internet and social media, trying to reach as many people as we can… Technology has helped in that we now have the opportunity to reach many more people with the internet and social media.

What was the last song you listened to?

Some new Tesla and Styx music…

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Cd’s and Vinyl… I used to also love cassette tapes! 😉

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

To be honest I don’t listen to a lot of new music on Spotify or Apple Music… I check out some indie radio shows that showcase new artists sometimes online… Also YouTube and Classic Rock radio sometimes, along with my own collection of music both new and old!

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Spotify, YouTube, iTunes or my social media, (FB), and website: www.corymcoons.com

Anything else before we sign off?

Thank you so much for the opportunity and support of my music!
