Interview with Disco Dreams – Mystic Daze

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman March 15, 2022 5:50 pm Tagged With: dance, edm, Electronic, Instrumental, Ohio, producer, Psychedelic, songwriter, United States

Disco Dreams-Mystic Daze

Disco Dreams is a genre bending music producer from Northeast Ohio. He uses his ethereal like vocals combined with electronic beats to create a psychedelic-dance vibe. No matter what tone he may be portraying, it is without a doubt a captivating and emotion filled adventure. He hopes to spread his love for music to others to remind people to live in the moment, carefree.

In this interivew spotlight, I chat with Disco Dreams about the latest music, adapting during a pandemic, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

Northeast Ohio. I make Indie, Psychedelic-Dance music.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

Love for music and when covid hit I really just needed a new way of expressing myself during lockdown. So what better way, I thought to myself, then buying and studying a DAW for a whole year. Then just got addicted to spreading the joy of music even more.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

My album, Mystic Daze, was my first release I ever had in October 2021. I just really love creating entire stories of songs than just singles. I wanted my first release to be something people can go back on if they enjoy my future releases.

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

Starting from scratch and teaching myself everything without any mentors. I just kept trying until one day I knew it would just click. I am still learning and teaching myself everyday. I believe mixing and live performing are the same concept I am trying to focus on just as much  now. I keep creative with a true desire to keep expanding my mind with weird/strange sounds that sound good together and hopefully bring joy to someone.

What was the last song you listened to?

Drunk Dial – Pilotpriest

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Vinyl (if applicable), streaming platforms.
