Interview with Exit Daze – Back To The City

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 29, 2018 11:30 am Tagged With: electro-pop, New York, Pop, singer, songwriter, United States

Exit Daze

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Exit Daze about the latest single, challenges, motivations and more.

Full Q&A along with music and links below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create?

I am from Glen Head, Long Island. I like creating any music that brings my emotions to the forefront and helps me cope with my life in a positive way.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

I used to sit in front of my parents stereo system in the living room as a child for hours at a time. I used to play every single CD that was in the collection. It inspired me to start recording later in life and make my own records. Since those days of sitting and vibing to those albums music has become my strongest addiction.

How is “Back to The City” different than previous work you have done? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Although “Back to the City” is my first release, I have been involved in countless production of all genres and styles throughout my life. This work is different for me because I feel like I have finally met a middle ground of all my musical tastes. This is also a project which I had full creative control. I played every instrument on the records, engineers and produced it in it’s entirety.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

The biggest challenge for me has always been exposure. The fact of the matter is I am aware that for the most part, nobody really gives a shit about me or my project. Patience and longevity has been my biggest strength. I will continue to remain inspired and make music that I want to listen to on my own time. Hopefully, others can connect, enjoy and be inspired by my art. As far as the digital age goes, it is a wonderful time to be a musician. I’ve been able to invest in my own home studio that get’s the job done for high-quality recordings whenever I want.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

I will be releasing one single per month for the next 4 months, among other video releases and special content in between.
