Interview with GLOK – Take It

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman December 13, 2017 7:30 pm Tagged With: dance, Electronic

Glok ft Emy-Take It

In this interview spotlight, we chat with GLOK about the move from Paris to Miami, the new project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and a stream of Take It featuring Emy below.

What brought you from Paris to Miami?

Paris is my home, but Miami is all about the business. I had been coming to and performing at the annual Winter Music Conference and I found a love for the city. The people, energy, vibe, culture, and streets all inspired and enhanced my music to levels of which I had only dreamed of in Paris. Miami gave me vision and life.

What got you into making this style of music?

I wanted to create uplifting dance music that everybody can enjoy. People can listen to my music in the car or dance to it at a club and this has been my all-time goal.

What was the inspiration for Laptop Love?

We live in a digital world and we are all addicted to our devices. We wake up with them, spend our day interacting with them, and even check them at night. This track was inspired by the new generation of lovers who live their lives through technology.

What was the process behind creating this track?

As always, I started by creating the background music. Most artists talk about love, sex, or nightlife, and I wanted to be different. In Laptop Love we actually talk about love, but it’s only digital, and almost a fantasy. When I heard the news about Sophia Robot, who was granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia, I knew I was onto something! My robot in the Laptop Love video looks even less human than Sophia.

What’s your favorite part about performing it live?

Laptop Love starts off very low key. It sounds like a very smooth and melancholic song in the beginning, but when the drop kicks off, it’s a totally different energy and it always gets people.

Can you give us some behind-the-scenes detail about the music video?

We shot the music video with a bunch of amazing people that made it awesome. Both Main characters and extras got deeply involved during the shoot and gave the best performance. I like the part that we shot in the Metromover (Downtown Miami) area. In this segment, the actress shows her partner (The robot) around the city. The funny thing is that the actor didn’t know this part of Miami, so his reactions were actually real and not an act.
