Interview: Jeremy Voltz

by Leslie Sherman December 10, 2025 2:29 pm

Burned-out mathematician turned indie-soul artist Jeremy Voltz returns with “Feel It All,” a deeply introspective track about the struggle to care for someone despite anger, distance, and the vulnerability that comes with connection. As the latest release from Voltz‘s 2025 music campaign, the single captures the push and pull of human relationships – tender, complicated, and ultimately unbreakable.

“The song came from a rocky relationship with a friend,” Voltz shares. “I tried for almost a year to distance myself and keep safe at arm’s length. But I realized that no matter how hard I tried not to care about my friend, I couldn’t stop. My anger had dried up without me noticing, and I even tried to cling to it so I wouldn’t have to care, because caring is hard. But ultimately, care blooms in spite of our best efforts.”

* What can you share with readers about your new project?

The song “Feel It All” came from a rocky relationship with a friend. I tried for almost a year to distance myself and keep safe at arm’s length. But I realized that no matter how hard I tried not to care about my friend, I couldn’t stop. My anger had dried up without me noticing, and I even tried to cling to it so I wouldn’t have to care, because caring is hard. But ultimately, care blooms in spite of our best efforts.

* How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?

This is a different kind of track for me, produced entirely on an Akai MPC sampler.  It’s an amazing new way to create away from my guitar. The track inspired the lyrics, which is usually the other way around for me. When I came up with the beat, these emotions and lyrics flowed out of me almost instantly.  It’s more of a chill, introspective song compared to my previous releases, and I really love the vibe it creates.

* What about this single makes you most proud?

I’m very proud of the themes the lyrics explore.  I hardened my heart, to get through it.  The day to day pain of life, but I blew it.  The cracks are showing… flowers bloom.  Pretend I don’t see them open with the morning dew.  But I do.

* Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

It had been a long time since I released my last single “Mountains” due to life stuff I was going through. I wanted to put something out that felt like new beginnings, and I think this track really feels like that to me.

* What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

I write songs to the people in my life and what I wish I had the courage to say to them.  As my relationships grow and deepen, these relationships become songs.  As long as I have people I care about, relationships that grow and change, I’ll have songs to write.

* If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown – who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.

I love the lyricism and songwriting of Dawes, amazing band.  I got to catch them last year in Maine and their show blew me away.  I’d love to collaborate with them.  Oh also Lake Street Dive!

* What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

The song Quit My Habit by Rebekah Hawker has been stuck in my head for about a year haha, amazing song.  Some of my favourite artists are Toronto based.  There’s something about getting to see these amazing songwriters in an intimate room, get to know them, that makes the music hit that much harder.  My fav songwriters are Mattie Leon, Chris and Nicole, Rebekah Hawker, Pater, John Muirhead… the list goes on!  Also been obsessed with “The Hand” by Annabelle Dinda the last couple weeks.

* Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

Jeremyvoltzmusic on instagram, @jeremyvoltz on TikTok, and my website/email list at jeremyvoltzmusic.com

* I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?

Just want to say thank you for supporting independent artists, the world is a crazy place right now and it’s just nice to take a moment to celebrate art and the music community.  I’m very lucky to get to do what I do, and your support means a lot.  🙂
