Jet Black Alley Cat Interview

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman April 7, 2017 10:16 am Tagged With: Nashville, Pop, Rock, United States

Jet Black Alley Cat

In this interview spotlight, we chat with Nashville’s Jet Black Alley Cat about the new project, their influences, thoughts on the digitization of music and more.

Full Q&A along with links and streams below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Our band formed in Nashville , but each of us are from different places across the southeast . It’s been neat to see the process of us all coming together . As far as style we always use the same words : VINTAGE / POP / ROCK / GROOVE . It’s a ‘ fall in love with a feeling ‘ style of music .

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

I think we all just found something we actually loved . That’s a big thing because i don’t think many people truly love what they do . Some of us grew up in music , others of us are very new to it . But we all have found ourselves invested in JETBLACK for some reason . Not every day is easy . We all know this . But I think when you’re invested in creating something bigger than you and even more invested in the people around you , those things just keep you going .

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

‘ Golden ‘ is definitely our most pop release since our first single ‘ Poison ‘ . We knew we wanted to push a bit more that direction with both the recording and the video because it was going to be the last single of this set that was released . So in those ways this one was somewhat different . But we didn’t compromise what we we wanted from the beginning and that was for every song to be felt and to be genuine to its themes and inspirations . ‘ Golden ‘ is a flashy , fun song . It’s sexy and it’s expensive . Those are things we wanted to make sure we got right .

Do you face any challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? On the flip side, how has technology helped you (if it has)?

I’m sure there are challenges , but I don’t think that’s something we really care to spend too much time thinking about . Challenges exist everywhere . We all have to figure them out , so we aren’t too concerned by them . As far as how technology has helped us , it’s allowed us to make our decisions and release whenever we want to release . It gives everyone a chance . It allows it to be about the work you put in .

Where can we follow you online and hear more music?

All of our socials can be found under JBACmusic or jet black alley cat . Spotify and SoundCloud are the two main places we release anything new . You can also visit jetblackalleycat.com for all updates and info .

Anything else before we sign off?

We just wanna say thank you for having us and thank you for continuing to keep up with JETBLACK . It’s our hope that you continue to fall in love with our world and never cease to make your lives GORGEOUS . Cheers from us ?

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
