Interview with John Evans

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman February 6, 2019 11:07 am Tagged With: indie rock, Rock, singer, songwriter, United Kingdom

John Evans Music

After finishing Harlech Music college, where he supported Amy Wadge (of Ed Sheeran fame) and graduating from Chester University, John Evans has released two solo albums and a solo EP with the Imperials (amongst many other collaborations including a live album with his previous band Redhill).

This latest release is a collaboration with some great musicians based in Houston, Sweden, New Zealand and the UK. It was mixed by Joe Gavito and mastered by Randy Miller.

In this interview spotlight, I chat with John Evans about the new release, challenges, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I am from a little town called Denbigh in North Wales and I create a Diverse range of music from folk , Rock to Country and dance music.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I have suffered from psychological illness for a number of years and music was my way through my illness. I suffer from the same diagnosis as Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys I have always had a passion for creating music since my early teens when I used to sneak into the music room at school and use their 4-track recorder.

How is this new release different than previous ones? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

I am just trying to get some recognition with my latest release.

What was the last song you listened to?

One of the last tracks I listened to is purple rain by Prince

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

I believe that Digital production is just as good if not better than vinyl and tape even though I have recorded on both.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

I believe that Spotify is the way forward as well as apple music so long as songwriter payments are increased to reasonable levels.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

The best way to contact me is thru my website at www.johnevansmusic.co.uk or www.facebook.com/johnevansmusic
