Interview with Lydia’s Castle

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman June 9, 2022 10:22 am Tagged With: hard rock, Metal, Nashville, Rock, Tennessee, United States

Lydia's Castle

Led by vocalist Tonya LeeAnne and her husband/guitarist Cody Denton, Lydia’s Castle formed in 2021 which naturally became a preferred outlet for expressing personal loss, vulnerability and hope with an audience who loves great riffs and soaring melodic vocals. The EP was thoughtfully planned and written throughout 2021 as the band rounded itself out with former Staind/Soil Drummer Jon Wysocki and newly announced bassist Corey England. The genesis of the group began in personal tragedy, but the love and energy behind that event led to something even bigger than the rock quartet could ever imagine. The EP was produced by Jack Daniels (Sicktones Studio) and mastered by Mike Kalajian (Rogue Planet Mastering).

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Lydia’s Castle about the new project, adapting during lock downs, technology and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and how do You describe your style of music?

We are from Nashville TN and we play rock n roll.

How did you get here? As in, what inspired or motivated you to take on this journey through music and the music biz?

We have all wanted to play original music for a living for as long as we can remember. To us, there is no other option.

How does your latest project compare/contrast with your previous release(s)? Were you setting out to accomplish anything specific, follow a specific theme, or explore different styles of creation?

We didn’t try to accomplish any sort of theme or anything like that. We just knew we wanted to record a great rock record and to explore all avenues of what rock is. There are so many subgenres in rock to dig into, so why not use them all?

Name the biggest challenge you faced as a creative during these unprecedented? How did you adapt? How have you kept the creative fires burning during all this?

The biggest challenge was to stay creative. In times like these when everyone is going through a rough time, the only thing you can do is force yourself to “clock in” and  write something. Anything. Just has to be something.

What was the last song you listened to?

Call Me Little Sunshine by Ghost

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? 8-tracks? Cassettes? CDs? MP3s? Streaming platforms?

Vinyl for the sound, 8 track for the vibe, cassettes for the nostalgia, CDs for the easy packaging, MP3’s for quick demos, streaming platforms for the accessibility.

Where is the best place to connect with you and follow your journey?

Feel free to reach out to us via Facebook or Instagram, you can find all of our contact info at www.lydiascastle.com.

I really appreciate Your time. Anything else before we sign off?

We are dropping our EP digitally on June 3rd everywhere you can stream music! Come see us at a show near you!
