Interview with Matteo Scher and Stella Rose – Best Shot

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman November 22, 2017 10:46 am Tagged With: New York City, Pop, singer, songwriter, United States

Matteo Scher and Stella Rose

New York based songwriting duo Matteo Scher and Stella Rose have released their latest single Best Shot.

In this interview spotlight, we chat with them about their influences, challenges, the new project and more.

Full Q&A along with links and a stream of Best Shot can be found below.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

We are from New York, and the music we create falls into many genres. It started out as singer-songwriter/folk but it has moved more towards piano based singer-songwriter pop music. Each of us has our own influences and this E.P. brings them together.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Music has always been in our blood. Our whole family is full of musicians, and we are the youngest ones. We were also fortunate enough to go to a school that appreciated and help us foster out musical talent. I am personally motivated by a desire to communicate and relate to others and my sister is motivated to use music as an art form that can heal.

How is your new release different than previous ones? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

Matteo: My last release was solo project piano pop E.P. and this release is more commercial pop music. Its also more produced and the ideas are more developed. I think we set out to make an E.P. with a newer more produced sound.

Stella: Compared to the album I released 3 years ago, this album is much more developed and the songs are more relatable.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

Matteo: I think one of the challenges is that you are aware of the superior talent around you in a way 20 years ago you weren’t. Every day, someone new is going viral and blowing up and its hard to focus on your art when you see others around you always succeeding to great heights. I think the technology helps because it allows you to connect to others around the world who relate to your music.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

You can find us almost anywhere online, ITunes, Spotify, Bandcamp Soundcloud, if you want to connect with us here are links to our Instagram and Facebook!

Anything else before we sign off?

I want to shout out our mom and dad and entire family for always supporting us. No matter what musical decisions we make, they are always at our shows and listening to our music and we wouldn’t be anywhere with out them. Now that you know that our parents love our music go listen our single “Best Shot!”

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
