Interview with Monsters On The Horizon – Mr. Scary

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 29, 2018 10:09 am Tagged With: edm, New York City, Punk, trap, trip hop, United States

Monsters On The Horizon

We, as Monsters On The Horizon, are here to challenge the status quo and encourage a new perspective. We believe in music and art as a vehicle to awaken ideas and desires in others and promote introspection and observation of the world around us. Mr. Scary is a culmination of that belief, specifically in creating a dialogue with respect to the many issues plaguing society today”

In this interview spotlight, I chat with Monsters On The Horizon about their latest release, motivations, challenges and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Where are you from and what style rap do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

Our band is based out of Brooklyn and we make a sick mix of trip hop, punk, edm, trap, and any other genres we feel while in the creative process.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to stay the course?

Everything pointed to music for us. The state of the world is something out of the twilight zone. Our escape from this twisted reality is music. It’s therapy for us.

How is “Mr Scary” different than previous releases? Did you set out to accomplish anything specific?

This song is our most political release so far. It has a high energy that gets magnified in our live performance that gets people going crazy. We set out to talk about the times in a “MOTH” way.

Do you face challenges as an indie musician in a digital age? How has technology helped you (assuming it helps)?

Our biggest challenge is marketing and getting exposure when people are bombarded by other artists. Technology has helped us cut through the nonsense in the music industry and reach the people directly.

Where can we connect with you online and discover more music?

Anything else before we sign off?

Thanks for having us for this interview. We are here to raise the bar in music.
