Interview with The Ramona Flowers

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman August 29, 2017 8:42 am Tagged With: Alternative, Electronic, indie rock

The Ramona Flowers

In this interview spotlight, we chat with The Ramona Flowers about influences, the latest project, challenges and much more.

Full Q&A along with links and the video for If You Remember below.

The band’s new EP, Magnify, is available here.

Let’s dive a little deeper into The Ramona Flowers, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?

We were originally an indie band, but we got more and more inspired by electronic inspired music, and this just naturally filtered into what we were doing. The producer off our first album, Andy Barlow influenced us a lot.

How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?

Around five years.

Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?

We’re influenced by loads of current bands and artists like Phoenix, Everything Everything, Sampha.
We’re motivated by belief and pure stubbornness!

Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on your new EP, Magnify? Creatively or otherwise?

We wanted to try and do something with a bit more depth and beauty than some of our older stuff. We also wanted the music to be a bit more cohesive. In the past, we’ve sometimes had too many influences but without proper direction.

What was the last song you listened to?

“Plastic 100 degrees C” – Sampha

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Vinyl every time!

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Spotify, prefer is a strong word, we’re beholden to them!

Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?

How do listeners find you, and do you find the listeners, it’s a dark art. Major labels still have the power, as do radio and streaming services. Indie labels and artists are just fighting to survive.

Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?

We tour and gig all the time! We haven’t done much live streaming, but we’d love to. We’re heading off to Japan, South America, US, South East Asia and Europe over the coming year. Keep an eye on our socials!

Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?

Best place is Facebook, Instagram and Spotify:

Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?

Never give up, and if you do, don’t do music!
