Following the release of “Fleury Street,” Québec-based singer-songwriter Sébastien De Francesco returns with “Love on the Way Down,” a deeply reflective and emotionally uplifting folk-rock single that transforms the end of life into a meditation on gratitude, acceptance, and enduring love. Rather than focusing on fear or loss, the song gently reframes life’s final chapter as a moment where clarity emerges and love rises to the surface.
Inspired by witnessing someone face the end of life with remarkable grace, the song reflects on how perspective shifts when everything else falls away. “Love on the Way Down” suggests that while career, possessions, and regrets fade, what remains is the emotional imprint we leave behind on the people we’ve touched.
The song carries a simple but powerful idea: love becomes most visible when everything else dissolves. “As life winds down, love rises to the surface,” Sébastien shares. “Our greatest legacy isn’t what we achieve. It’s the love we share and leave behind”
What can you share with readers about your new project?
I’ve been working on this album with producer and multi-instrumentalist Lauren Bélec since last year. The songs were inspired by one last afternoon I spent with a friend of mine who was dying of cancer, and by the incredible grace he showed throughout the process.
How does this release compare with other projects you’ve done in the past?
This is the first album I’ve made where every song is about that one afternoon, so in a way, it’s a concept album.
What about this single makes you most proud?
I really like the melody in this song. It’s very nostalgic and melancholic, even though the chorus is quite uplifting. I’m also really proud of the spoken-word/rap section in the bridge.
Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?
Just to put out as much good music as I can—music that moves me—while still having fun creating it.
What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?
Life, love, family, friends. There are so many beautiful things to write about. When I write and record, I feel like I’m leaving a little piece of myself behind, sort of a legacy. That, along with the pure fun of creating, is what keeps me going.
If you could collaborate with anyone—dead or alive, famous or unknown—who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a link so readers can check them out.
Well, of course, there are a few giants who have influenced me over the years—people I’ve always admired and continue to admire—like Paul McCartney, Phil Collins, and Peter Gabriel. There are also bands like The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Nirvana. Any chance to collaborate with one of them would be pretty incredible.
What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?
The last song I listened to was “Her Mercy” by Glen Hansard. As for my all-time favorite, I’d have to say The Beatles.
Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?
These days, with everything going on around the new release, the best places to find me are on my Instagram and Facebook artist pages.
I really appreciate your time. Is there anything you’d like to share before we sign off?
Thanks so much for having me. It really means a lot to me. My upcoming album is called The Main Attraction, and it will be available everywhere in March 2027.
