Interview with the Adjusted – Idiocracy

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman May 17, 2019 9:25 am Tagged With: alternative rock, hard rock, indie rock, Rock, United Kingdom

the Adjusted

In this interview spotlight, I chat with the Adjusted about his debut release, Idiocracy, how running around the UK as Trump left his face with severe chemical burns, challenges as an indie musician and more.

Full Q&A along with links and music below.

Idiocracy is now available on Spotify or Apple Music.

Where are you from and what style of music do you create? (In your own words, not necessarily in marketing terms or by popular genre classifications.)

I’m from Birmingham in the UK, it’s a multicultural city, full of people originating from all over the world, and of course the home of Black Sabbath, so I can only describe my music as Guitar based Eclectic Electric confusion.

What led you down this path of music and what motivates you to keep going?

I’m mainly motivated by the full realization that life is pretty hollow, and only music seems to partly fill the void for me.

Another thing that motivates me, is this feeling that we’re going backwards, regressing, Trump, Brexit, fanatical puritanical dark age religions.

How is Idicracy different than previous releases? Were you trying to accomplish anything specific?

Idiocracy is incredibly different to other songs, as in its recorded and released.

It’s the first time I’ve done this, and have enjoyed the reaction to it, I have around 30 songs written, although I strongly suspect some of them are pure crap.

How is your face? I heard you suffered for your art while filming the music video. Briefly tell us about that.

I recorded the song with no real plan, then I wondered what I’d do with it, so I shot a video, the idea being I’d be dressed as Donald Trump, complete with latex mask, on the day of filming the mask kept falling off, so I super glued it to my face, and found out the combination of Superglue, Sweat and Latex produces nasty chemical burns!

Name one or two challenges you face as an indie musician in this oversaturated, digital music age? How has technology helped you (since we know it does help)?

The big problem for Indie musicians is finding an audience, also I’m not sure how much of a face I’ll have left. So there’s that too.

What was the last song you listened to?

Crazy little thing called love – Queen

Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?

Probably MP3s as you can get it for free.

How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?

Again, spotify, its free. I don’t really buy music as a rule, I’m all or nothing.

If I really love a song, I’ll learn to play it, that’s how I feel I ‘own’ music.

Where is the best place to connect with you online and discover more music?

Probably youtube, I plan on making more music and videos… although next time, without the superglue and latex!

Anything else before we sign off?

I’m currently writing a song about aliens. Might be the next song I do.

As the collective attention span shrinks, Eddie Canyon finds himself searching for meaning within the noise. Reaching into and around his Arkansas roots, Eddie carves a distinctively southern Hip Hop undercurrent in his exploratory approach to music. Weaving tales of battling addiction, thoughts on spirituality, and irreverent social commentary into his lyrics, Eddie aims to intrigue his audience at the least, and at most, leave them with a liberating degree of thoughtfulness. In his own words: “The Matrix is real, but there’s a way out.” Support on Spotify or Bandcamp.
