Interview with Bi:Lingual

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 30, 2014 11:56 am Tagged With: Hip Hop, rap, Rock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5xOupv84pc

BiLingualLet’s start with the basics. Who are you? Where are you from? What style of music do you create?

We are Bi:Lingual, literally. We are 50% Cypriot, 10% Jamaican, 40% British. We make ballsy fuzzed up Rock n Roll music fronted by Old School-esque Hip/Hop vocals.

What led you to choosing j name Bi:Lingual as your band name?

The name comes from the fact that we fuse together two musical languages, Rock n Roll and Hip/Hop.

What influences your sound? Who or what in life drove you to create this rock/rap hybrid?

It came about as an accident when we were jamming with no vocalist for a college project, which needed vocals. Ideally, Dylan also needed a band. We are influenced by everything we listen to, never trying to stick to one solid influence. If you listen hard enough you will know what we listen to.

How popular is this form of music on your side of the ocean?

We’re probably the only band that does this sort of music. Alot of people compare us to bands like Rage Against The Machine, even though we are barely like them, they are just the closest thing to us. It works in our favour because people never know what to expect when they hear ‘Rock n Roll infused Hip/Hop’.

Is the Internet helping you expose your music to more people? Are you gaining new fans from areas you haven’t toured yet?

We try and keep a strong online presence by releasing music, videos, etc and interacting with people as much as possible which helps alot because you’re gaining fans all the time without having to leave the toilet seat. Although we prefer people finding us by seeing us live, we like to think we provide a nice experience through our physical/sexual presence.

What can we expect from Bi:Lingual for the remainder of 2014? What happens after this tour?

We’re going to keep touring and making music until people have no choice but to know who we are.

Where can we connect with you online? Listen to your music?

You can find us pretty much anywhere, here’s a convenient list.

  • Facebook – www.facebook.com/bilingualband
  • Soundcloud – www.soundcloud.com/bi-lingual
  • Youtube – www.youtube.com/bilingualband
  • Instagram – bilingualareshit
  • Twitter – @bilingualrshit

We are also on Spotify and iTunes.

Any last thoughts? Shout outs?

Dead White Doves, Allusondrugs, The God Complex for the good music. Think Culture Clothing for the clothes. Colonel Sanders and Twisted Burger Co for the food.
