Interview with Christee Palace

by Leslie Sherman March 27, 2023 3:22 pm Tagged With: christee palace

Christee Palace is a versatile and vibrant artist whose colourful personality and talent are undeniable. The Toronto-based pop singer/songwriter hails from a large family of musicians in her hometown of Windsor, Ontario. From winning the Jim Beam National Talent Search and an Indie Award, to opening for artists such as Sean Kingston and Walk off the Earth, her polished live show and captivating charisma continue to land her incredible milestones.

She teamed up with Billboard Top 10 artist Kayla Diamond to co-write and produce her latest single, “Love Me Better.” Blaming herself for a break-up, she found self-love in the songwriting process and came to understand what she deserves. She advises taking care of yourself first in order to find someone who is complementary to you.

We interview Amy Brookes of Low Tide Levee about their upcoming project, their music, her career, and what inspires her.

Full Q&A along with the music below!

What can you share with readers about your new project?

This song sprouted from truly the most vulnerable and sad time of my entire life.. but it became something that was a source of strength for me. I’ve always been a people-pleaser.. always concerned with going above and beyond with someone I was with, to the point of completely disregarding what I want and need. I’ve learned it’s important to honour yourself and love yourself first. This song is a turning point for me, as well as the rest of the project.

How does this release compare with your other projects you had in the past?

I usually write about heartbreak in terms of how it made me weaker, and how much it broke down my character. In this case, I really channeled all of those emotions as a result of heartbreak into strength. I wanted this song to be there for people when they needed the support, and to help give them a confidence boost. I didn’t want another sad song.

What about this single makes you most proud?

When I listen to this song, it changes the outcome of that breakup for me. I no longer feel like I’m weak. I think when you hear it, it changes your outlook on a past situation that used to bring on a lot of heartache. People are really connecting to it and using the song as a way to get through something that was super negative and draining. I love that.

Was there a specific goal you were trying to accomplish with this release?

I really wanted it to be a self-love anthem. I wanted it to be that song people went to when they needed help being strong, or even getting out of a situation that they hadn’t been able to in the past. I wanted it to be a HUGE hug for anyone who needed it, and help them recognize their worth.

What inspires you to create music? What motivates you to keep going?

Heartbreak, and alllll my feelings lol. I internalize a lot of what happens around me. I have always struggled with making other peoples problems my own, or just in general feeling like I’m not good enough for the world. Writing and being able to express all of my complex emotions has been life-changing and truly essential to my happiness. The fact that I’m able to write things that people can connect to is another huge motivation for me. How special is that?!

If you could collaborate with anyone – dead or alive, famous or unknown
– who would it be and why? If it’s an indie/DIY artist, please include a
link so readers can check them out.

AVRIL LAVIGNE. She’s the reason I started writing songs in the first place. She will always be my number one… even though there’s a ton of artists I’d love to collab with. I think for me getting to collab with your teenage hero is a dream.

What was the last song you listened to? Favorite all-time bands/artists?

The last song I was jamming to was “Jaded” by Miley Cyrus. Her new album just came out and I’ve been looping that. I’m always on the hunt for new music though. There’s a ton of local artists that are so incredible that inspire me like Lights, Aarys, Monowhales, Featurette (there’s a million more too), as well as mainstream artists like Fletcher, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Kelsea Ballerini, Julia Michaels.. the list goes on forever.

Where is the best place to find you and stay connected?

I’m on allll socials! For regular updates, Tiktok and Instagram are the big ones for me! @christeepalace on everything :), or my website www.christeepalace.com
